Charming Matouxi Village shakes off poverty

Matouxi Village in Wangjiaping Town, Yongding District, Zhangjiajie City, home to Tujia folk culture with a long history, sound ecological environment and superior geographical advantages, has been vigorously developing its tourism industry to achieve poverty alleviation. It has also been striving to strengthen its infrastructure construction in order to build a beautiful village for leisure. Today, the village with a history of 1,000 years of farming has attracted more tourists, with the tourism income reaching 20 million yuan.

Through three years of poverty alleviation, Matouxi Village has witnessed a better transportation network and improved facilities on tourism reception, culture and sports, achieving the overall upgrading of infrastructure. Meanwhile, the village continued to establish and improve economic industries, and strove to promote the transformation of traditional agriculture to leisure agriculture. As one of the 86 impoverished villages in Yongding District, Matouxi village shook off poverty in 2017, with the incidence of poverty dropping from 28.36% at the end of 2012 to 0.34% in 2019, and the annual per capita net income of the poor increasing from 1,460 yuan to 7,580 yuan. Hence, local villagers gained an enhanced sense of security, happiness, and achievement as their living standards improved significantly.

A 10.8km long bike path, the ten-mile metasequoia avenue, the high-quality selenium-rich rice base, the green organic rapeseed base and the first village history museum all show the extraordinary charm of Matouxi Village.
