Pantang Village worth visiting

By Sun Xiaoqi | Updated : Jul 16, 2021
Pantang Village in Yongding District, Zhangjiajie City has mountains and rivers as its bones and bloods, recording all the past memories.

There is the spectacular Feitan Waterfall and magnificent Zisheng Bridge which witnessed the heroism of the soldiers in the revolutionary years.

Feitan Waterfall

Feitan Waterfall is 71 meters in height and 68 meters in width (the best known Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province is 67 meters in height and 83.3 meters in width).

Around the waterfall, the lush vegetation and the misty Qingtianhe River form a fascinating view.

Red Flag Canal

In the spring of 1969, Pantang Village determined to gouge out a water channel after suffering for lack of water for many years.

Despite dangerous cliffs and abysses along the way, villagers chiseled and knocked the stonewall over and over again and completed the project with more than 4 years’s sweat and blood. Their struggles and persistence tell us “Constant dripping wears away the stone”.

Zisheng Bridge

In 1934, the archway of the Zisheng Bridge provided shelter for more than 8,000 soldiers of the Second and the Sixth Front Red Army, allowing them to have a brief rest after fierce battles.

Red Army Tree

In November 1935, the Second and the Sixth Front Red Army passed by the century-old ginkgo tree on their Long March route and stayed 4 days to replenish their rations.

Now, efforts are being made to build a great modern socialist country in all respects.  In Pantang Village, the gurgling water keeps flowing forward, the magnificent Zisheng Bridge stands still, and the towering tree guard the local people from generations to generations.

Pantang Village is free of busy traffic and bustling life, which will allow you to slow the pace and enjoy the tranquility and peace. In the morning, you can visit the waterfall on the cliff with local people; at noon, it’s time to sit around a table in stilted houses or courtyards to taste local dishes, like preserved meat, wild onions, chicken soup and fresh vegetables.

After lunch break, walking along the Tea-Horse Ancient Road to the Red Flag Canal would be a good way to understand the wisdom and tenacity of our forefather. Then going west further, we step into red revolution times. Under the Zisheng Bridge and Red Army Tree, we stand on the land where revolutionary forefather had fought for us.

The fairs where special local products are sold can be a good place to hang out. You can buy some dried food such as fried bean curd, sweet potato chip, fermented bean curd and Chinese bacon. This is the perfect place to relax and escape the summer heat.
