Wulingyuan becomes model of tourism helping rural revitalization

Recently, the case of “Poverty Alleviation through World Natural Heritage Tourism Plus” in Wulingyuan District, Hunan Province was included in the “2021 World Tourism Alliance—Cases of Tourism Helping Rural Revitalization”(Cases for short), which was released in Beijing recently. It’s the only one in Hunan Province.
There are 50 typical cases collected from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and cities in China, showing the development achievements of rural revitalization and the contributions made by the nation to global poverty reduction and development. Recommended by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the “Cases” is one of the 50 supporting activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations.
Wulingyuan District, located in the middle of Zhangjiajie City, is a well-known tourist attraction at home and abroad. Given its advantageous tourism, the district has vigorously developed rural tourism and promoted poverty alleviation through tourism in recent years. The scenic areas and tourist routes helped nearly 300,000 poor households shake off poverty and become rich. And the ten tourism-oriented poverty alleviation modes were recommended throughout the country.
The district focused on poverty reduction and tourism, and the whole district took the lead in shaking off poverty in the province. It combined tourism development with rural revitalization, promoted the tourism-driven poverty alleviation. It focused on developing characteristic homestay inns, idyllic scenery, folk customs and pastoral complex, and improving supporting facilities. It has explored a good targeted poverty alleviation way, which can be reproduced and promoted elsewhere.
