Zhangjiajie Vine Tea

Zhangjiajie Vine Tea is made of a perennial vine. It’s called vine tea because there is a layor of white frost on the surface of the tea leaves which are the active components of flavonoid.

According to experts, Zhangjiajie Vine Tea is very high in flavonoid. Flavonoid is a dynamic factor of blood vessels. After entering the blood circulation, it can decompose the plaques coagulated by low-density lipoprotein on the blood vessel walls, dredge blood vessels and smooth blood flow, so as to stabilize blood pressure and blood lipids.

In recent years, Zhangjiajie has focused on developing vine tea industry. Zhangjiajie Vine Tea has successively gained honors such as national GI protected product, an organic product and a Chinese well-known trademark. It has become a business card for Zhangjiajie to show itself and make it known to the world.

When travelling in Zhangjiajie, except for visiting beautiful scenery, tasting delicious food, it’s a good choice for you to drink a cup of vine tea.

Sandstone painting

The sandstone painting, which uses local colorful sandstones, plant skin, branches and leaves as “pigments”, combines the expressions of the traditional Chinese paintings and western paintings, and integrates print, sculpture and bonsai art, vividly showing the natural scenery and folk customs of Zhangjiajie. It’s now one of the must-purchase specialties when travelling in Zhangjiajie.

“The sandstone painting is a new type of painting, with natural materials, such as natural colored stones, plants, etc. sticked together,” Li Junsheng, founder of Zhangjiajie Junsheng Gallery, said that over the years, all tourists visiting Zhangjiajie have showed their love for sandstone paintings, and call them “miniature Zhangjiajie”.  

Tujia brocade

Tujia brocade is also called Xilan Kapu in Tujia language. Xilan Kapu means bedclothes with flowers on it. It’s one of the four famous brocades in Chinese folklore, with a history of more than 3,000 years. It belongs to traditional workmanship. In 2006, it’s listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list and is known as highly-concentrated national culture.

“The opening of Zhangjiajie-Jishou-Huaihua High-speed Railway will provide convenient transportation and bring more merchants. It will greatly promote the industrial development of Tujia brocade in Wuling Mountain Areas,” Ding Shiju, chairman of Zhangjiajie Guaiyaomei Tujia Brocade Development Co., Ltd., hoped that Tujia brocade can also develop rapidly and be known by more people.

Zhangjiajie giant salamander

The giant salamander is known as a living fossil, and its growth history can be traced back to 350 million years ago. It’s a national second-class protected animal. It has high academic and scientific research value, high medical, edible and other economic values.

Zhangjiajie’s unique sandstone forest landform, suitable climate, rich bait resources, excellent water conditions and long breeding habits produce Zhangjiajie giant salamander with high nutritional value, unique taste and high quality.

Kudzu powder

Kudzu is a wild plant growing in deep mountains and barren hillsides, with long vines. Kudzu power is made after a series of processes. You can take it with white sugar and fried rice. It can also be fried with meat. Kudzu powder has the functions of decreasing internal heat, cooling and refreshing, adjusting endocrine regulation, rejuvenating skin, reducing weight and so on.  

Zhu Wanzhang, chairman of Zhangjiajie Xiangxiaowu Trade Co., Ltd., said that after the opening of this high-speed railway route, more tourists will come to Zhangjiajie to taste delicious food and buy local agricultural and sideline products. This will promote the development of local agricultural industry and rural revitalization.

Tujia bacon

Hunan Province abounds with cured meat, especially Tujia bacon, because only Tujia bacon is really smoked and roasted by firewood. Tujia bacon boasts a variety of cured meat, including cured fish, cured meat, cured sausage, cured game, etc. It’s a good choice for you to taste Tujia cured meat.

Tree root carving and stone carving

Zhangjiajie is rich in raw materials for making tree root art and pebble art. The root carving, tree root modeling and pebble modeling artworks produced here have their unique artistic taste. They have participated in national exhibitions for many times and won awards. They are good for collection.

Zhangjiajie Fungus

Rock fungus, also called stone fungus, is a kind of black lichen growing on the cliffs in Zhangjiajie. Rock fungus is the moss on rocks, with its body leafy and its back mostly gray or yellowish brown. It’s rich in nutrition, which can reduce inflammation and nourish the body. It’s both food and medicine.


It is general oval in shape, yellowish brown in early appearance and reddish brown after maturity. Its pulp is edible, with bright green pulps and a row of black or red seeds.

As macaques like eating it, it’s called “macaque fruit”. It is also said that it is named because the pericarp is covered with hair, which looks like macaques. It is fresh, tender, tasty and rich in nutrition.
Yuquan tribute rice

Yuquanyu Village, Zhonghu Township, Wulingyuan District, has 1,140 mu (76 hectares) of cultivated land, including 920 mu (61.33 hectares) of paddy fields and 220 mu (14.67 hectares) of dry land. There are 10 village groups, 277 households and 1,091 people.

Its special water, soil and excellent ecological conditions give birth to fragrant and sweet rice. It is said that a local chieftain in the Yuan Dynasty sent rice to the imperial palace. After eating it, the emperor was impressed and named it “Yuquan tribute rice”.

Tujia glutinous rice cake

Glutinous rice cake is a special food in Zhangjiajie city. Wash the glutinous rice, soak it in water, then drain it and steam it after several hours of soaking. Then put the glutinous rice in the cake trough, smash it with a hammer, knead it into a lump of uniform size, and press it to a thin cake, which is called glutinous rice cake.

After the rice cake is dried in the shade, soak it in a jar and change the water once every ten to fifteen days. In this way, it won’t go bad and can be kept till the Dragon Boat Festival.
