Located in the north end of Xiehe Township, Wulingyuan District, Longweiba Village is adjacent to the core scenic area of Zhangjiajie. It is a typical Tujia village, covering 5 resident groups and a population of 645 in 193 households.
After walking into Longweiba Village, boutique homestay inns with pastoral decoration style are built by the mountain with distinctive features.
More than 30 years ago, there were more mountains with few arable land in Longweiba. At the beginning of tourism development in Wulingyuan, the per capita net income of local residents in Longweiba was less than 200 yuan due to poor transportation and few arable farmland.
In recent years, relying on its geographical advantages to revitalize the “landscape” resources and implement the rural revitalization strategy, Longweiba has stepped on a distinctive and well-established road and become a happy mountain village yearned for by people.
The collective economic income of Longweiba increased from 320,000 yuan in 2018 to more than 800,000 yuan in 2021, doubling more than twice. The people’s sense of happiness and gain has been significantly improved.
At present, there are 13 high-end homestay inns in the area under the jurisdiction of Longweiba, including Faraway Catalpa Eco Resort, Purespace, Super Mountain Holiday Hotel and Longman, with a total investment of more than 100 million yuan.
The development of these homestay inns has effectively promoted the development of rural tourism and employment of residents in Longweiba, directly providing more than 140 jobs and driving more than 200 people to engage in the tourism service industry.
More than 95% of migrant workers have returned home for development. Residents are able to get rid of poverty and become rich at their doorsteps.
Nowadays, Faraway Catalpa Eco Resort has transferred more than 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares) of local farmland to restore the rural farming style, which can also realize self-sufficiency and enrich tourist experience.
At the same time, it also has cooperated with the local residents to carry out projects like oil pressing, brocade weaving, silver making and iron painting, so as to inherit the folk culture.
The once poor village, a place that once received little attention, has now embarked on the road of poverty alleviation and prosperity, attracting tourists from all over the country.
With earth-shaking changes, it has successively won such titles as the “second batch of national rural tourism key villages”, “11th batch of national demonstration villages with one village one product (leisure tourism)”, “Hunan’s Provincial Demonstration Village of Beautiful Countryside” and “Hunan’s first batch of rural tourism key villages”.
