Suoxi Valley, also called Suoxi Stream, is famous for its rope-like stream, and boasts unique geology, geomorphology, abundant wild animals and vegetation resources. Praised as a jewel in the Wulingyuan Scenic Spot, the Suoxi Valley is characterized by grotesque mountains, fresh water, precipitous bridge and deep and quiet cave.
Suoxi Valley, a transliteration of Tujia language, means a foggy mountain villa, because “so” means fog, “t” means big and “jeu” means mountain villa. Lying in the northeastern Wulingyuan Scenic Spot, it covers 25,400 hectares (254 square kilometers). The Suoxi Valley Scenic Spot was titled as the Provincial-level Nature Reserve in February 1982, whose roads connect with downtown Zhangjiajie, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and roads from Cili County to Changsha City, capital of Hunan Province.
Centered around the Jundi Terrace, it opened many car routes with the whole course of 54.3 kilometers accessing to small scenic spots and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and built high-standard walking roads with a total length of 9.4 kilometers.
Being a basin, it is encircled by mountains, hills, peaks, rivers, lakes and caves and is characterized by its beautiful mountains, deep and quiet valleys, fresh water and mysterious caves.
Eight small scenic areas have been developed, which are West Sea, Ten-mile Gallery, Shuirao Simen, Baizhang Valley, Baofeng Lake, Huanglong Cave, A Ray of Sky.
