On September 25, 1982, approved by the State Council, the former Zhangjiajie Wood Farm was officially renamed “Zhangjiajie National Forest Park”, which was the first national forest park in China.
In August, 1988, Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area was list as the national key tourist attraction.
In December, 1992, it was included in the World Nature Heritage Site List for its unique quartz sandstone peak forest, and in February, 2004, it was ranked as World Geological Parks.
Besides, it was list in the first batch of 5A grade tourist attractions, covering an area of 4,810 hectares (48.1 square kilometers).
